Getting Started With Organic Vegetable Gardening

You might be inclined to think of organic vegetable gardening as a hippie way to grow your own food, but in today's world of pesticides, herbicides and harmful bacteria in our food supply, growing ones own food is of profound interest to more and more home owners.

I can remember when everybody had a garden and grew their own vegetables.

Allotments, victory gardens, vegetable shows and demonstrations were a part of a lifestyle. Most of the old housing estates where I grew up had land set aside for home owners to grow their own vegetables.

What better way to get started than to grow raw food - fruits and vegetables and grow them organically, in your backyard. That's organically without commercial fertilizers weed sprays, or for that matter, chemical pest control products. Without Poison!

Organic and Sustainable Living

With worsening economic conditions and increased interest in organic and sustainable living, many people are turning to vegetable gardening as a supplement to their family's diet.

Food grown in your own backyard, uses up little if any fuel for shipping, and the grower can be sure of what exactly was used to grow it.

Organic horticulture, or organic gardening, has become increasingly popular for the modern home gardener.

The Rewards are in the Products

Organic vegetable gardening offers many rewards and is also good for the environment. Going organic means avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and looking after the earth.

Your reward will be a thriving vegetable garden that produces tasty food throughout the years.

Growing organic vegetables is a good way to directly benefit both yourself and the environment.

In addition, maintaining your garden helps to keep you fit.

If you make your own compost, you will find that your garden soon pays for itself, as you won't have to spend money on fertilizer or pesticides and you can supply all the vegetables you need from your own garden.

Advantages Of Organic Vegetable Gardening

One of the rewards of organic gardening is the chance to eat fresh vegetables which taste great and are nutritionally superior to those grown with chemical fertilizer.

Did you know that eating organic produce and organic processed fruits and vegetables will increase your antioxidant intake by about 30 percent over conventionally grown produce.

Recent studies suggest that organic vegetables have a higher nutritional content and are less watery than those grown through an industrial farming process. They also contain more anti-oxidants, which provide a major health benefit.

Growing organic vegetables means that everyone can enjoy healthier food, and there's another benefit too: this type of garden does no damage to the environment.
